Four years without service. That's a long time for a landscape to go without any real attention - and you can see exactly what that kind of neglect does to an otherwise nice property. Shrubs grow out of shape, beds lose their definition, and old mulch breaks down until it's basically just bare dirt. The whole yard starts to look tired, even if the house itself is well-kept.

Here's what we were working with on this Indianapolis property. The beds had zero fresh mulch, the shrubs needed serious shaping, and there was no clean separation between the lawn and the planting areas. It wasn't a disaster, but it had that unmistakable look of a yard that just hadn't been touched in a while. The bones were good - it just needed someone to actually work it.

We came in and handled the shrub trimming first, getting everything shaped back to a clean, controlled form. From there, we laid fresh dark mulch across all the beds - front, sides, and back around the deck. Fresh mulch does more than just look good. It holds moisture, regulates soil temperature, and slows down weeds. All things that matter a lot when a landscape has been left alone this long.

The difference between a neglected yard and a well-maintained one usually isn't as complicated as people think. It's not a full redesign. It's consistent work - trimming shrubs before they get out of hand, refreshing mulch on a regular schedule, keeping the beds looking intentional. This property is a solid example of that. A focused cleanup and it went from looking forgotten to looking cared for.

Yards like this are exactly why we push the value of routine maintenance. When you stay on top of it, every visit is manageable. When it goes four years between services, it becomes a bigger job. Either way, we can handle it - but the easier path is keeping up with it from the start.
